Many people are not happy with Windows Vista, either because Microsoft made unnecessary changes to the user interface, programs and hardware that work fine under earlier versions of Windows don’t work under Vista, or because some things are just harder to do with Vista.
Most new PCs come with Vista installed, but some PC makers still allow you to specify Windows XP as an option.
If you prefer Windows XP to Windows Vista, you have 3 options open to you:
- If you are planning to buy a new PC this year, buy it from a company that offers Windows XP as an option before the end of June 2008 - better yet, don’t wait until the last minute.
- Buy Windows XP on CD media before the end of June 2008 - you’ll be happy to have the physical media in case something happens to your hard drive.
- Take your chances and see if you can get an OEM version of Windows XP installed on a new PC that a custom PC seller builds and sets up for you, or see if you can get a Windows XP from the inventory of a computer store.
Starting July 1, 2008, Microsoft will only be offering Windows Vista.
Kudos to Blogulate for this tip.
