Behavior change to healthier living habits opens opportunities in physician entrepreneurship

by Jose DeJesus MD on December 13, 2007

According to Scott MacStravic, author of “The Other ‘Behavioral Medicine’” published by HealthLeaders Media, the four biggest behavioral problems in the general population at large are:

  1. Poor dietary habits
  2. Poor exercise / activity habits
  3. Poor stress / time-management habits, and
  4. Poor self-care / management habits.

Philippa Kennedy thinks that physicians should take more leadership in addressing these concerns.  She poses some interesting new ways for physician entrepreneurs to help guide patients while creating new business:

  • Developing of online / telephone coaching services
  • Creating of a “wellness” services staffed by health educators like nurses, nutritionists and other trained personnel
  • Authoring information products, including books, recordings, and videos.

Certainly many patients could benefit from personalized approaches such as these.
