I entered my wife’s flight info and was able to set up automatic alerts to let me know when it actually took off and landed. When I was flying, I set up my own flight for tracking and got notified on my cell phone when the airline changed the gate for my flight and the airline didn’t announce the change. It saved me from missing my flight! Thanks for letting me know about this flight tracking service!

This exposes dishonesty in Australia which is practiced by one of the largest Australian law firms which also trains compliance, risk management and occupational health and safety. It is not necessarily as safe as people think Australia is due to this company training Qantas Airline staff how they should operate plus training police and other government staff. They do not practice what they preach.

If you have Norton Antivirus or McAfee’s anti-virus software on your computer, you really should visit the free virus scanning and removal websites run by their competitors. It IS EXACTLY like getting a second opinion – while all the virus protection companies will eventually be able to detect and remove all major viruses, they won’t all have countermeasures for all viruses at the same time. Checking your computer out at one of these sites will help catch what your installed antivirus software might have missed. Don’t go crazy – once every 2 weeks is more than enough for any normal user, unless you suspect that your computer is infected.

You can be very profitable but unless you have the cash to pay your bills when they are due, your creditors will not be impressed – they want to be paid. At least once a month, look at the prior month’s payments that came in, bills that came due, and accounts receivable that are due you. If collection of accounts receivable is your problem, you have a few options:
– Re-examine your billing and collection policies and processes, and consider your staffing or outsourcing arrangements for these important aspects of your business.
– Consider financing your accounts receivable. There are a few ways to do this, including factoring or through an unsecured line of credit.

Berkshire Hathaway’s primary investments are in some of the most solid names in American business. Sure, some of them will take their lumps from time to time, but are more likely to go the distance than other companies.

Don’t expect this company to give you the kind of quick profits that some high-tech startup might provide, but then again you aren’t going to be subject to the major losses they can cause when the market turns against them. It’s a cornerstone holding that, for the past 2 years, has slightly outperformed the S&P500, and which, over the past 3 years, is up 15% while the S&P500 is down about 15%. Now let’s assume that you bought an S&P500 index fund 3 years ago – on top of your 15% loss, you would have had “management” fees deducted that would shave another .5 to 4.5% from your investment.

The new rules are a good start but the credit card issuers were given the better part of a year to tighten the screws on anyone who was been working on paying off their balance.

There is a provision where if you have a fixed rate now, then if the credit card company raises your rate, the new rate can’t be applied to your old balance. Many of the bigger credit card issuers handled this by converting everyone to a floating rate before the new law took effect.

It’s unfortunate that the credit card companies feel that they are having a hard time when they can raise money at less than 2% and lend it out to you at 15 to 30%. Perhaps fewer borrowers would have difficulty paying down their balances if rates were under 15%.

Lenders managed to circumvent state usery laws by forum shopping and moving to states like South Dakota, and successfully lobbied to lock in more people to high penalty rates with the new bankruptcy law. At some point there will be a grass-roots backlash against this, which the credit card companies will not be able to thwart through their lobbying efforts.

The advice about having your accountant weigh the after-tax cost of leasing vs. a purchase is wise. Unless you have the time and expertise to evaluate all the depreciation options and calculate the net after-tax cost for each option, you can and should expect your accountant to be able to do it for you and present the alternatives along with the reasons for their recommendation. An accountant is supposed to be more than a tax preparer and should be able to present this kind of analysis and advice to help you make smarter personal and business decisions.
